Book 8 of the Fatal series from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Marie Force
As a new year dawns in the capital city, dual scandals rock the Metropolitan Police Department—and Lieutenant Sam Holland is right in the middle of them. Chief Farnsworth is catching heat for the way he handled a recent homicide investigation, and Detective Gonzales is accused of failing to disclose an earlier connection to the judge who decided his custody hearing.
When Gonzo's fight for his child turns deadly and he has a shaky alibi, Sam must defend two of her closest colleagues. All while her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, settles into his new office at the White House.
Nick begins to wonder if the president is using him for a political boost, and his worries mount over a complication in the plans to adopt Scotty at a time when Sam is being put through the wringer by the always-rabid DC press corps. As the evidence against Gonzo piles up, Sam suspects someone is gunning for her—and her team.

Fatal Scandal The Fatal Series Book 8 edition by Marie Force Romance eBooks
I have followed this series since it first started, and it still, at book 8, has the same pull as it did at the beginning.Fast paced murder mysteries, chasing the bad guys, the dry humor and wit of the cop squad, mixed with absolutely swoon worthy romances of several different couples. Stories that make me laugh out loud, sigh, and bring the tears into my eyes. You feel the emotions of the characters - frustration, fear, anxiety, love, adoration, and devotion.
But as always, Nick and Sam are in the main focus. Over the series the love, affection, and passion they have for each other has just grown. It is rare, raw, deep, and tangible. The way these two know each other, and understands each other, is beyond amazing and touching. And their love and care for Scotty, who himself is the most adorable 13 year old you have ever met, is so genuine. Together these three make a such a family unit, you cherish every moment with them.
They have a big group of family, friends and colleagues around them, and we get glimpses into some of their personal life, love and tragedy as well.
This time it is the closest to Sam, who seem to be targeted at different kinds of tragedies. Sam is doing all she can, to try to piece it all together, solve the different mysteries, while the family is adjusting to the new life of vice president.
The story moves fast, and you get the viewpoints of the events from several different angles. Reading the Fatal series is like visiting old friends for me, a true pleasure

Fatal Scandal The Fatal Series Book 8 edition by Marie Force Romance eBooks Reviews
Fatal Scandal The Fatal Series Book Eight is by Marie Force. After the first seven book in the series, you would think they were getting redundant; but they certainly are not. In fact, they are getting better.
Two scandals hit the papers at the same time. One dealt with the father of the man who murdered his own brother and at least five other teens accusing the police chief of incompetence which caused the death of his son. Mr. Stringer would not face the fact that his son killed the teens. The second one dealt with Detective Gonzo. Gonzo had recently been to court and gained permanent custody of the son he hadn’t known about. However, he failed to tell anyone that he knew the Judge and the Judge didn’t tell anyone he knew Gonzo. Gonzo had been instrumental in saving the Judge’s sister. Lori was claiming the two of them were in cahoots and it wasn’t a fair hearing. She wanted her son back.
The police department was in an uproar trying to find out who was leaking information. Who knew the chief had put off arresting Billy Stringer for a day so that a narcotics bust could take place. Instead, Billy ran and now they were trying to find him. Who told Lori about Gonzo and the Judge?
While they are trying to make sense of these allegations, Lori Phillips turned up murdered. Sam is busy trying to find the killer before her squad was taken off the case. Meanwhile, Nick has gone to his first day at the While House as Vice President. What is his role to be? What is he to do every day? Then, Andy, their lawyer calls with the news that he has found Scotty’s biological father. Now to get him to sign papers so they can adopt Scotty. Will he sign?
I absolutely agree with the other reviewers, this is another suspenseful thriller that starts out with murder and has Sam in another tough spot with her nemisis Lt Stahl who was released on bail. Scandal within the MPD when Gonzo is accused of the murder and the press think there is police cover up to protect him. Nick has his first day as Vice president of the US but feeling useless. Shelby (tinkerbell) & Avery Hill are an item. I wasn't sure how this would play since Avery has a thing for Sam but Marie did an excellent job. Shelby is shocked that she didn't realize his feeling for Sam since there was a reason Nick hated Avery (Nick likes everybody). Avery wants honesty in his relationship with her so he tells her. Shelby needs to process this, everyone knew but her. Scotty's real father is found and Nick & Sam are nervous about it. Skip has the bullet removed from his neck but is still having issues. The Fatal series books are terrific, well-thought out plots as well as realistic police jargon and political jocking at the West Wing of White House. Can't wait for next book; will Sam get her mojo back or will she realize time is marching on if she wants to have a child. Nick has been advised to chart is own agenda as VP since he feels used by President Nelson. Lots of possible plots and subplots!! diamondgirl
I am a fan of the Fatal Series. This time Sam and Nick struggle with his new job, the adoption of Scotty, and a frame job against Sam's second in command at work. It was a good and fast-paced story, but Force's editor should have done a search for the word "sexy" and removed half of them. You don't get out of the first chapter before Nick is sexy and her dress is sexy. This, unfortunately. continues throughout the book. Let's try a variety of adjectives please and thank you.
When you get past the over used adjective, the story has many intriguing twists; Sam carefully has her team examine each and every piece of evidence. Broken security cameras that would have backed up Gonzo's alibi? Yes. Conveniently an address left in the victim's car that is Gonzo's and even the reporting phone call came from a pay phone near his house. What will provide the clue that clears his name?
The press is howling, but even the most neophyte of mystery readers knows that an experienced police officer would not make some of those mistakes. The story turns dark when Sam begins to investigate other police officers. Does the answer to this crime lead back to the police department and a person, who is jealous of Sam's success and her team's ability to close crimes.
As before this book keeps you turning the pages and hanging on for the ride. Hopefully Force will continue to add to this series, which is enjoyable and fun toe read.
